McPeters, Woody win at Hickory

James Newsome of Kannapolis (left) and Tracy McCready of Concord won the April 14 National Bass Circuit Yadkin Division tournament at High Rock Lake with 22.32 pounds.

Grant McPeters and Donnie Woody won the April 21 Foothills Marine Team Benefit Bass Tournament at Lake Hickory with 20.14 pounds and received a Skeeter SX190 boat and 150 Yamaha motor.

Michael Fox of Statesville and Tony Shook of Claremont ranked second with 18.46 pounds and won $3,816.

David Williams of Marshall placed second at the April 28 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Savannah Division tournament at Lake Hartwell, S.C. His catch of 19-11 paid $2,469.

Hank Cherry of Maiden placed fourth with 22-7 and earned $40,000 at the April 26-29 FLW National Guard Open at Lake Norman.

Shelby’s Bryan Thrift ranked 10th with 9-8 and received $25,000.

Larry Nixon of Bee Branch, Ark., took the first-place prize of $150,000.

High Point’s Pat Golden placed 24th at the May 3-5 Bassmaster Southern Open at Santee-Cooper Reservoir, S.C. His catch of 29-02 paid $1,200.

Terry Scroggins of San Mateo, Fla., won the top prize of $6,000 with 50-11.

Mark Williams of Taylorsville ranked 21st among non-boaters with 9-12 and received $500.

Greg Pope of Gastonia had 7-01 and earned $400, finishing 33rd.

Linda Berry took Day 1 big-fish honors among non-boaters with a 6-pound, 12-ounce bass and won $500 at the May 3-5 Mercury Women’s Bassmaster Tour event at Lake Guntersville, Ala.

Tammy Richardson of Arkansas became the first three-time winner on the women’s tour with her victory at Lake Guntersville and received a Triton boat and Mercury motor.

Errol Duckett and Jimmy LeShock of Charlotte (N.C. Piedmont Division) placed second at the May 10-12 Fishers of Men National Championship at Lake Murray, S.C. The two anglers had a three-day total of 49.40 pounds and won $5,000 plus $1,000 in bonus money.

Clarence Brinkley of Browns Summit and James Allred of Pfaff town took the thirdplace prize of $3,500 with 46.85 pounds.

The S.C. Low Country Division team of Ronnie Mueller and Wayne Frierson won the event with 60.94 pounds and received a Triton TR-20X2 boat and Mercury Optimax motor, and $3,180 in bonus money.

Randleman’s Mike McDonald won the May 12 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament with 19 pounds, 6 ounces and received $4,380.

Mark Robertson of Henderson placed third with 18-8 and banked $1,719.

Durham’s Jay Garrard took the big-fish award of $795 in the Boater Division with a 6 pound, 7-ounce bass.

In the non-boaters competition, John Yager of Apex finished second with 18-00 and earned $1,256; Steve Kiser of Tarboro, fourth, with 17-2 for $586; and Danny Lilly of Wake Forest, fifth, with 16-3 for $502.
