The ninth annual Lowcountry edition of the Red Bone Tournament Series raised $100,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Thirty teams consisting of one fishing guide and two anglers fanned out from McClellanville to the Stono Rover in search of redfish and trout – the only two species that score points in the two-day event fished Oct. 23 & 24. The Red*Trout Classic is a part of the larger RedBone tournament series that is very popular in Florida and the keys, where the target species are redfish and bonefish, and each tournament raises funds for CFF.

Celebrity Angler Mark Davis, Host of Penn’s Big Water Adventures television show, won the celebrity angler division, and was fishing with Capt. Jamie Hough and angler Ethan Williams.

Electing to fish north out of tournament headquarter’s Toler’s Cove Marina, the winning team beat out celebrity angler Blair Wiggins of Addictive Fishing television who elected to fish south with Capt. John Irwin and angler Davis Peralta.

Team Big Water Adventures caught nine trout and four redfish on Day One, and then four trout and 22 redfish on Day Two to win their division.

Team D.O.A. led by Capt. Reed Simmons fishing with lady angler Amy Bennett and her son 17-year old Jack Bennett Jr. won the Grand Champion Team Award. They put up a staggering two-day total of 88 fish caught, with 60 trout and 28 redfish making their way into the net. Simmons loves to fish a D.O.A. shrimp fishing under a Cajun Thunder float, and that is the rig that did most of the damage in their victory.

The tournament has a points system that rewards using a fly rod over regular spinning tackle lures, and a Charleston orthopedic surgeon won the Flyrod Division while fishing with Capt. Graham Hegamyer of Southern Tail Charters.

Local celebrity weatherman Dave Williams served as emcee for the event, and even got out and caught some redfish on the grass flats on Day Two.
