Lexington anglers flip to win at High Rock

Dwayne Hughes and Chuck Hughes won the Yadkin Team Tournament on High Rock Lake last weekend.

Hughes and Hughes catch enough scattered fish for big win

Dwayne and Chuck Hughes of Lexington flipped jigs tipped with Sweet Beaver plastic trailers to win the June 29 Yadkin Team Tournament at High Rock Lake. The two anglers had 18.34 pounds on five fish, winning $386. Their catch included the big fish of the day, a 4.61-pound bass worth an additional $71.50.

“It wasn’t easy,” said Dwayne. “With high water, the fish were widely scattered in the bushes. It took us all day to catch what we had.”

The Salisbury team of Jack Vanderford and Phillip Hedrick also probed the bushes with jigs and plastic chunks to bring in 17.36 pounds that paid $200.

Jamie Benton of Denton and Scott Eggleston of Salisbury placed third with 12.22 pounds and received $85.

High water at High Rock has kept the fish in the bushes, an unusual situation for late June and early July.
