Ledbetter/Jimmy V field was huge

A huge field of 270 teams from six states turned out to support the March 8 Jim Ledbetter Memorial/Jimmy V Foundation Charity Bass Tournament at Lake Norman.

The benefit event raised more than $40,000.

Roger Pope of Statesville and Scott Hamrick of Lincolnton topped the field with 18.63 pounds and won the boating package, a Skeeter boat and Yamaha motor.

Brian Morgan of Newton and Ramon Stockham of Greensboro placed second with 18.39 pounds, while Hank Cherry of Maiden and Shane Unberger ranked third with 15.93 pounds.

Wayne Sharp and Mac Morrison of the Foothills Division won the March 8 N.C. Directors Challenge State Championship at Lake Wylie with 15.96 pounds of bass and received $1,000. They also claimed the big-fish award, a $500 gift card from Bass Pro Shops, with a 5.50-pound bass.

John Snincak of the Central Division and Richard Jordon of Bass Pro Shops took the award for the top Director Sponsor team.

Joie and Errol Duckett topped the Adult/Junior competition with 13.86 pounds.

Four North Carolinians earned checks at the March 6-9 Bassmaster Elite Series Sunshine Showdown at the Harris Chain of Lakes, Leesburg, Fla.

They were Britt Myers of Lake Wylie, 14th, with 34-08 for $10,700; Dave Wolak of Wake Forest, 19th, with 33-08 for $10,500; Guy Eaker of Cherryville, 35th, with 29-08 for $10,000; and Marty Stone of Linden, 37th, with 29-03 for $10,000.

Pat Golden of High Point, Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount,Eaker, and Wolak placed in the money at the March 13-16 Bassmaster Elite Series Citrus Open at the Kissimmee Chain, Lake Wales, Fla.

Eaker placed 39th, Wolak 42nd, Golden 44th and Wilks finished 47th and each received $10,000.

Wolak also finished 14th at the Feb.22-24 Bassmasters Classic at Lake Hartwell near Anderson, S.C. His three-day catch of 38-06 paid $14,000.

The other Tar Heel qualifier, Jeff Coble of Beaufort, placed 41st with 17-06 and earned $10,000.
