Haire wins ESPN event at High Rock

Curtis Winslow of Huntersville holds two fish from the 90.55-pound catch he and Rodney Kerley of Troutman landed to win the July 15 NCATS tournament at Lake Norman. The biggest flathead weighed 32.88 pounds.

Yadkinville’s Danny Haire won the July 9 ESPN Outdoor Bassmasters Series tournament at High Rock Lake with a five-fish limit totaling 14-01 to take the top prize of $4,516. Haire caught his fish by dragging a Carolina rig in 10 to 12 feet of water.

Steve Sink of Winston-Salem finished second with 13-07 and received $1,385 plus $700 in bonus money.

Other scores were Doug Young of Salisbury, fourth, with 11-10 for $723 plus $180 in bonus money; Jeff Coble of Manson, sixth, with 11-06 for $602; David Wright of Lexington, seventh, with 11-02 for $602; Jason Thomas of Southmont, eighth, with 10-09 for $542; Jerry Bono of Advance, ninth, with 10-00 for $482; and Darrell Parks of Asheboro, 10th, with 9-14 for $422.

Greensboro’s Larry Inman took the big-fish award of $627 in cash and bonus money with a 5-pound, 15-ounce fish, his only keeper of the tournament.

Joel Garvin of Shallotte, who fished with Haire, won the Non-boater Division with 17-04, a weight combining his catch and Haire’s. He banked $2,203.

Other non-boater scores were Brandon Garner of Salisbury, third, with 16-01 for $411 plus $180 in bonus money; James Patton of High Point, fourth, with 15-07 for $294 plus $180 in bonus money; Boomer Morast of Roxboro, fifth, with 14-13 for $294 plus $180 in bonus money; Amanda Payne of Manteo, sixth, with 13-14 for $294; Howard Cashwell of Roanoke Rapids, seventh, with 13-07 for $294; Ronnie Harris of Raleigh, ninth, with 13-07 for $235; and Rick McCrary of Lexington, 10th, with 12-13 for $206.

Jamey Way of McLeansville won the June 24 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division tournament at Kerr Lake with a five-fish catch of 16-13 that paid $5,658.

Inman and David Farrington of Greensboro placed fourth and fifth respectively. Inman had 13-02 worth $1,320, and Farrington weighed in 13-01 worth $1,132.

George Bost of Hickory topped the Co-angler Division with 15-06 and received $2,728.

Also earning checks among the co-anglers were Billy Odom of Benson, fourth, with 12-02 for $637, and Bradley Stain of New Bern, tied for fifth, with 11-06 for $523.

John Hyatt of Leicester ranked fifth among the co-anglers at the June 24 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division tournament at Clarks Hill Lake, Ga. His catch of 9-03 was worth $424.

Chucky Culler of the Miller’s Creek Youth Bassers placed first with 5.98 pounds in the division for 11 to 14 year olds, and Nick Bell of the Carolina Bassers took the top spot with 8.42 pounds in the division for 15 to 18 year olds at the June 24 Junior State Championship at Lake Norman under the direction of the N.C. Bass Federation.

Pat Golden of High Point placed 16th at the June 22-24 Bassmaster Tour Northern Division event at Kentucky Lake. His catch of 34-13 paid $2,772.

Linden’s Marty Stone earned $10,000 by placing 27th with 40-03 at the July 6-9 Empire Chase Pro event at Lake Oneida, Syracuse, N.Y.

Stone banked another $10,500 at the July 13-16 Championship Choice Pro tournament at Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh, N.Y., by placing 18th with 47-00.

Guy Eaker of Cherryville ranked 37th with 41-08 at Lake Champlain and received $10.000.
