Goble, Coble take major tourneys

Jerry Goble of Sherrills Ford topped the Co-angler Division at the Nov. 4-5 EverStart Series Championship at Pickwick Lake, Ala., and won $62,500.Jeff Coble of Manson won the Oct. 27-29 ESPN Outdoors Bassmasters Series Regional at Kerr Lake with 45 pounds, 7 ounces and received $51,010. Lexington’s David Wright placed second with 26-06 and banked $3,500.

Britt Myers of Mt. Holly placed 17th at the Nov. 17-19 Southern Open at Lake Toho/Kissimmee, Fla. His catch of 27-03 paid $1,386.

Three other Tar Heel anglers earned checks — Kevin Langill of Terrell, 47th, with 20-06; Guy Eaker of Cherryville, 48th, with 20-02; and Bryan Thrift of Shelby, 49th, with 18-00. They each received $630.

Terry Scroggins of Palatka, Fla., took the first-place prize of $47,766 with 39-09.

Five Tar Heel anglers are among the 90 qualifiers for the Dec. 1-4 CITGO Bassmaster Open Championship at the Alabama River. The top five anglers in the tournament receive an invitation to the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster Classic.

Rodney Sorrell of Stokesdale qualified from the Northern Open; Langill, Myers, and Eaker qualified from the Southern Open; and Royce Madden qualified from the Northern Open in the Non-boater Division.

Four Tar Heels have qualified for the FLW’s Bass Fishing League All-American to be held at the Connecticut River, Hartford, Conn., July 5-8.

Mike McDonald of Randleman and Tony Fox of Timberlake qualified through the Oct. 6-8 Lake Cherokee Regional. McDonald placed second with 41-11 and won $6,000 plus a bonus of $500 for the Ranger Cup. Fox ranked fifth with 27-13 and earned $2,000.

Jerry Lineberger of Lincolnton qualified through the Oct. 28-29 Chevy Trucks Wild Card Tournament at Kentucky Lake. He placed fourth in the Co-angler Division with 10-15 and received $840.

Co-angler Steve Harwood of Weaverville qualified through the Oct. 20-22 Lake Martin Regional, placing third with 16-07 and won $1,500.
