Maiden pro wraps up 2014 championship in 27th
Maiden’s Hank Cherry returned to the waters that gave up his first-day Bassmaster Classic stringer today, but by lunchtime it was apparent it wasn’t going to happen there.
“I went to cranking rocks this afternoon,” Cherry said.
That strategy yielded quick results, and the Bassmaster Elite Series pro built a 17-pound, 7 ounce stringer.
But it wasn’t enough to make the cut: Cherry wrapped up the tournament in 27th place, only two places out of the cut.
Cherry said his switch just made sense.
“Everything was getting monotonous, and I wanted to change things up,” he said.
He moved to a bridge that was bounded by riprap, and began working a crankbait.
“I’m fishing right up against (the rocks), banging the crankbait off them,” Cherry said.
Despite missing the cut, Cherry said he was pretty satisfied.
“I had two mess-ups yesterday; other than that I’m happy,” he said.
