Caldwell tops field in Kerr Lake BFL

Tucked inside his rainsuit is Jack Vanderford of Salisbury, whose 7.33-pound bass won big-fish honors in the Feb. 28 High Rock Team Tournament.

Jamey Caldwell of Carthage won the Walmart BFL Piedmont Division tournament on March 7 at Kerr Lake with a 5-fish limit that weighed 15 pounds, five ounces. He won $5,241.

Other North Carolina anglers finishing in the money were: Robert Walser of Lexington, second with 15-2 for $2,620; Greg Warwick of Red Springs, third with 14-6 for $1,748; Randy Goss of Stem, fourth with 12-10 for $1,223; and James Blankenship of Lexington tied Ralph Hollifield Jr. of Winston-Salem for fifth with 12-9. They each received $1,004.

Henderson’s Hunter Campbell finished first among the co-anglers with 11-13 and collected $2,614. Randy Buchanan of Bullock placed fifth with 9-11 and banked $523.

Cherry wins on Norman

Hank Cherry of Maiden won the Walmart BFL North Carolina Division tournament Feb. 21 on Lake Norman with a 5-fish limit that weighed 19 pounds. His 6-pound, 13-ounce lunker was also the big fish of the tournament.

Cherry received $4,720 for first place and $695 for big fish.

Albemarle’s Dean Talbert captured the co-angler competition with 12-06 and banked $2,288.

Other co-anglers placing were: Bradley Stain of New Bern, second with 8-8 for $1,144; Eddie Cook of Clemmons, fourth with 8-0 for $534; and Billie Lookabill of Mocksville, fifth with 7-7 for $458.

Travis Chilcot of Matthews won the co-angler big-fish award of $332 with a 3-pound, 11-ounce bass.

NC pros have tough Classic

Dave Wolak of Wake Forest placed 22nd with 37 pounds, 2 ounces, at the 2009 Bassmaster Classic on the Red River out of Shreveport and Bossier City, La., in late February.

Wolak was the top finisher among three North Carolina pros, taking home $12,300.

Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount placed 44th with 15-08, and David Williams of Maiden finished 46th with 13-04. Each angler received $10,000.

In mid-March, Wolak took 35th and Pat Golden of High Point placed 42nd in the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on Lake Amistad out of Del Rio, Texas.

Wolak and Golden won $10,000 each.

Huntley scores at Santee

Kenneth Huntley of Matthews finished third with 18-4 and won $1,424 at the Walmart BFL South Carolina Division tournament on March 7 on South Carolina’s Santee Cooper Reservoirs.

Thomasville’s Charles Woods topped co-anglers with 10-03 and banked $2,064.

Hamrick, Pope win Ledbetter again

Scott Hamrick of Denver and Roger Pope of Statesville won the Jim Ledbetter Memorial Casting Out Cancer Tournament at Lake Norman on March 14, taking home a Skeeter boat package.

Hamrick and Pope won the tournamen last year.
