Badin striper hotspots

Striper fishermen can spread out the live baits they slow-troll on free lines by using side planers or planer boards.

As a rule, Badin stripers will move further toward the dam as the season progresses. Rodney Crisco recommends trying these spots:

Uwharrie Point. Look for a submerged rockpile between the small island off the point and the mainland. Also on the Whitney side, look for several small pockets in the golf course area. Fish inside the mouths of the pockets.

Palmer Mountain. Stripers will stage in the main-lake section off Palmer Mountain, also known as Palmer Island. This section has main-lake humps that will come out of 150 feet up to 30 feet.

The Hitching Post. Behind Palmer Mountain on the down-lake side is a small cut marked with a set of buoys. The buoys mark some big rocks and boulders and is locally known as “The Hitching Post.” These rocks are a good place to troll, offering access to deeper water.

Gladys Fork. Located on the Beaverdam arm, Crisco trolls the right bank headed into Gladys Fork, all the way to the bottleneck. The Bluff Islands just outside Gladys Fork may also hold fish. The north side of the island is a gradual slope to 20 feet and often holds more fish.
