Upstate man drowns in Lake Keowee

Thirty-five-year-old Caleb Cohen of Spartanburg, SC drowned while attempting to save a child from the same fate on June 3, 2023.

According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s office, Cohen was on a boat in one of Lake Keowee’s coves when he noticed a child beginning to struggle while swimming around 4 p.m. Cohen jumped in to offer assistance, but witnesses said he never resurfaced. His body was found at about 8:45 p.m. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis ruled Cohen’s death as an accidental drowning.
