Yesterday (Saturday) was youth and veterans duck hunt. My oldest son David and I were able to guide with a good friend that’s shot his fair share of ducks with me over the years. Farron Guthrie thanks for your service! (Retired USCG).
I was fortunate to hunt with all my children this year.
Ilyse (our youngest girl) qualifies as a youth and she was ready for another day in the blind too. We sailed across back sound in hopes of her finally getting her “shot.” Patience paid off and she was able to harvest her first bufflehead duck. I’m glad Gracey helped convince her to give it a try this past Thanksgiving. I’m just glad she chooses to hang out with me and her big brothers and one of my old hunting partners. We’ve had a blast this year… she’s soaked in the wonderful outdoors learning about ducks, shorebirds, tides, marsh, boats, weather, gun safety and tons of other things that surround us. She’s also listened to our stories and jokes and laughed at all the foolishness of us men folk. Here’s a few pictures of her big day in the blind…. I hope she always wants to go with me. I think (for now) she’s hooked!
