The wait is over

10-year wait ends

It’s been 10 years since I’ve killed a turkey. I finally had a place with turkeys, the right shotgun, the right shells, and the patience.

This year taught me you don’t have to be the best caller but knowing the birds behavior and their route is important too. I tried to remember the things my friends have taught me over the years as well.

The turkey I shot came close when I yelped and cut with my custom pink glass pot call with beaver tail under the glass. I like to shoot beavers at night too. Once the turkey got really close I stopped calling and waited for him to come to my hen decoy. I named her Sally Yelpsalot. The tom started drumming right beside me about ten feet when he saw her. When he came in to check her out he got checked out. I’m blessed to have harvested a turkey after so many years.
