24-pound gobbler played hard-to-get

Nine-year-old Langston Campbell was hunting on April 10, 2023 when he killed a 24-pound gobbler in Warren County, NC. The big bird had a 12-inch beard and 1 1/8-inch spurs. The young hunter shot the turkey at 9:30 a.m.

Philip Faulk took care of calling the gobbler into range, but this bird was a tough one.

“I worked that bird for 2 hours. He was on the other side of a small body of water all alone, but didn’t want to commit. Only until I stood up and acted like the hen was leaving by walking away from him did he commit. Then he came straight into the decoys and Langston’s barrel,” said Faulk. “I began working the bird at 7 a.m, and he finally came into range at 9:30.
