Jason and Gauge Britt doubled up on gobblers on April 10, 2022 during an afternoon hunt in Horry County, S.C. Both birds had 11+ inch beards and 1+ inch spurs. They missed out on getting a shot at the two toms earlier that morning.
“We went that morning before church. The birds ended up coming out into the food plot at 8:20 a.m., but we had just left at 8 to go home to get ready for church,” said Jason Britt.
Luckily, the birds came back that afternoon.
“We went back out at around 2 p.m. and we ended up shooting them around 4:30,” he said.
Britt said he feels fortunate to have shared the experience with 7-year-old Gauge. They’ve teamed up on numerous outdoor adventures together hunting several different species. And he said this hunt was a special one.
“It’s not very often you get to double up when turkey hunting. This one is special though! Doubling up with my 7-year-old son on two monster gobblers, each with 11+ inch beards and 1+ inch spurs is just different! It’s Gauge’s biggest bird to date, and my biggest bird in a few years. I love you son, and I love this life with you,” he said.
