First Turkey Ever

Clayton Hawley, Uhwarrie National Forest, April 13th 2023

Tried a small piece that I haven’t seen before, calling down into a bowl. Heard a faint gobble and moved in. He snuck around behind my initial setup and his hen spotted me. They moved off, not horribly spooked. Frustrated, I started back uphill and called on the next ridge… To my great surprise he answered again from the shade! I rushed a setup behind a fallen tree stump and he came looking. A three note yelp stopped him at the edge of shotgun range. The rest is history! I am so thankful for this harvest. I’m self taught and it took me three years of hard work to get this opportunity. My first turkey, thank the Lord!
