Frankie Fedorovich’s trophy NC gobbler

Second-year hunter bags trophy gobbler

I would like to submit my trophy turkey from opening day. After an uneventful morning hunt without a single gobble in Albertson, NC, I decided to try again that afternoon. On my way to the field, I spooked several large turkeys.

I decided to move my blind and gear from its original location closer to the area I had just seen the birds. After moving all of my gear into the new area, it was dead for a couple of hours. Then just before dusk, I caught a large Tom working into my field and feeding, completely uninterested in my plastic jake and hen decoys. He never got within normal range but I had recently purchased a super full turkey choke and decided to take the shot at a distance. I dropped him at 81 paces. 10-inch beard and 1 1/4-inch spurs. What an incredible hunt and bird. It reminded me that sometimes patience is a hunter’s greatest tool.
