Cayden Clark’s first out of state bird SC youth open day

7-year-old killed gobbler in Marlboro County

Cayden Clark of Pembroke, NC killed his first out-of-state turkey in Marlboro County, SC during the Palmetto State’s March 18-19, 2023 Youth Hunt weekend.

We were invitees to a good friend’s farm in South Carolina, and the bird only gobbled on the roost once. Around 8:20 a.m., I yelped a few times and he cut me off and sounded to be about 100 yards down in the woods! Cayd asked me was I going to call to him again. and I told him not yet, just be patient. And as I was saying that, the bird stepped out into the field and come in on a string strutting!
When he got to 15 yards Cayden said he had the Red Dot on him and asked could he shoot him. After he shot, the bird literally come off the ground and flipped back. He was using his Steven’s 410, shooting the Foxtrot Striker 383 9.5s! I immediately gave my son a high five and hugged him and we exited the blind to retrieve his bird! The bird weighed 27.79 pounds with a 12.5 inch thick beard and 1 1/2 inch spurs.
