Myself, Justin and Keith Williamson traveled from Granville County Sunday night and camped out at the more northern campground at the Sandhills game-land for opening day. After breaking the tent down and cooking a breakfast we headed towards one of my favorite smaller blocks of the gameland. The three of us split up right before daybreak and started hunting two branches of a stream. Around 8:30 I spotted the top of an oak tree shaking just a little too much for it to be the wind and got down behind a bush. After I saw it was a fox squirrel I called them over on the radio to start making their way towards me. In the meantime I moved from bush to bush trying to get closer. After a while the fox squirrel finally got into a tree that was close enough for me to run to the bottom of and keep him pinned. By this time the Justin and Keith made their way to the tree. Keith wound up waist deep in the mud in the deceivingly shallow looking stream in the process. By 9:15 they were able to spot the Fox Squirrels tail blowing in the wind at the top of the tree and Justin was able to get his first!
