This hunt occurred on December 22nd, 2025 at the Sandhills Game Land in Richmond County.
Me and 3 friends decided to go after some fox squirrels with our 2 Mtn feists ‘Pete And Max.’ We hunted an area none of us had ever been to and within 5 minutes of following the dogs, Max and Pete were split treed. Unfortunately, Pete’s squirrel ran into a nest so my friends weren’t able to harvest that squirrel. Meanwhile, Max had 2 fox squirrels treed in the same tree on the same branch! I decided to wait until my friends got there because I didn’t want either squirrel to run off once we shot at the other. That was the right decision because as soon as my friend shot, the squirrel I was aiming for took off straight towards a hole in the tree but my Steven’s 16 gauge stopped him before he got there! Once those squirrels were in our sacks, we turned Max and Pete back loose and within 5 minutes both were treed again. Unfortunately for Pete again, his squirrel was on private land so he was called off the tree. Meanwhile, Max had 2 grey squirrels treed in the same tree. I decided to harvest both by myself because we weren’t there to hunt greys and I didn’t mind if one got away. It was an exciting 15 minutes for our new spot at the Sandhills!
