On Saturday, opening day of rifle season in pender county NC me and my daughter Sophie (11) gets to the blind a little before lunch… She had never used a rifle, only a 4-10 shotgun, so I let her use my .45 long colt rifle…it’s just short enough for her to handle. At around 4pm I noticed a doe run across the field we were hunting, then a few seconds later another deer comes out running the same direction. I noticed it had horns so I told her to get ready in case he comes in range…. Sure enough he turns and runs straight to us then stops broad side about 30 yards from us broad side…. She takes the shot… He drops in his like a sack of potatoes, we climb down and notice she spined him and he’s still alive so she reloads and finished him off with one shot in the chest…. FIRST TIME HUNTING WITH A RIFLE,,, FIRST BUCK DOWN!! 3 POINT.
