Mason and Andy Pitts decided to try one more deer hunt on New Year’s Eve just to see what might happen. They were hunting a place neither of them had hunted before with hopes of possibly tagging another doe before the season’s end. Around 5:00 a few doe’s appeared, but all seemed small so Mason held off. A few minutes later a spike walked out and while looking at him in his scope he noticed more movement. He quickly adjusted his crosshairs to the big 6 point coming out just 50 yards from the stand. With the shot from his 6.5 creedmoor the buck ran but we watched him fall after running only about a 70 yards. And with that Mason had broken his personal best buck for the second time in the 2024 season.
