The 8-point buck weighed 173 pounds

Aaron Roof of West Columbia, S.C. killed a big 8-point buck in Kershaw County while hunting on Sept. 4, 2021. The deer weighed 173 pounds.

Roof was perched in a tree stand overlooking an open field when he shot the buck with a 7mm Remington Magnum at 5:30 p.m. It was a deer he had a pretty good history with. He had seen it in the flesh during previous visits to the property. His trail cameras had also recorded numerous photos of the deer.

When the 8-point buck offered him a clean shot, he pulled the trigger at 85 yards. The big deer dropped on the spot.
