Ridgely Linville’s 200-pound buck

The 200-pound buck was a surprise visitor

Ridgely Linville of Summerville, SC killed a 9-point buck that weighed 200 pounds in Allendale County on Oct. 7, 2023. And he was only hoping to kill a big doe.

“We had a big doe contest going on, and I went out trying to kill a big doe,” he said.

Even though the big buck wasn’t his intended target for that day, he was somewhat aware of this deer’s presence. Still, he was surprised it showed up at that stand.

“I had a couple of pictures of this deer from the past 2 years. But I had not hunted this area, nor did I have trail cameras in this area. I solely went out to shoot a doe,” he said.

During the hunt, the big buck crossed the road to Linville’s right out of some longleaf pines. He shot the deer with a 7mm mag. It went about 40 yards then dropped.

As for the big doe contest? Ridgely didn’t win it, but it came out okay.

“Ended up splitting the doe pot in a tie. The buck cost me the outright win,” he said.
