Raeley Stone kills first velvet buck

Raeley Stone of Johnsonville, SC killed her first full velvet buck on Sept. 2, 2024 in Florence County. The 6-point buck weighed 180 pounds.

She shot the deer with a Browning rifle from 100 yards away. The buck fell immediately.

Stone knew the deer was in the area prior to the hunt, thanks to trail camera photos.

“My fiancé and I had been watching these deer on camera for a few weeks, and an afternoon of skipping out on running deer dogs turned into an eventful evening,” she said.

Stone saw plenty of other deer during the hunt, but she had her mind set on getting a shot at one of their hit-list bucks.

“We sat over a 50-acre field, watching around 20 deer feed at last light,” she said. “Then two of our target bucks stepped out, and with the perfect shot, I dropped my first full velvet buck in his tracks.”
