Peyton’s First Buck!

My daughter, Peyton Buttke, turned 8 years old just three weeks ago and decided this was her year! She had been with me several times in the past three weeks with no luck. Sunday (11/24/24) afternoon around 3pm we headed to the box stand on our land in Randolph County, NC loaded with snacks for her. We weren’t seeing anything until around 5pm when I looked up and told her there was this perfect buck in the corn pile right at the edge of our field. Before I could say anything else she already had her rifle up and knew exactly what to do. I asked her if she had it behind his shoulder and, with confidence, she said ‘yes!’ so I told her to pull the trigger. We waited until dark and headed back to the house to get her Mom so she could come help us look for it. It only took about 15 minutes in the dark to find her first trophy buck- and she was the one that found him (not the life long hunters looking at the field line behind her)! He had ran about 10-15 yards into the woods before he crashed, she had smoked this beautiful 8 point perfectly! I have never seen a little girl so excited in all my life, and there has never been a dad as proud as I was/am!
