I’m submitting this for my husband because honestly, no one deserves it more. He puts so much time and effort into deer hunting. He’s always the one taking everyone else out, making sure they get a shot at their first deer or turkey. He just loves helping people experience that first-time excitement and memory, and he never expects anything in return.
He spends all season putting in the work, and somehow it never seems to go his way. But on October 28, things finally did. At the last minute, he decided to sit in one of our box stands after changing his mind about another spot. A little while later, he had to climb down two hours before sunset because, well… gas station pizza before a hunt is apparently not the best idea (lesson learned).
When he got back in the stand, he grabbed his Tink’s 69 spray and of course, it wouldn’t spray. He tried to fix it, and it blew up right in his face. So now he’s sitting there covered in doe pee, watching a little buck munch away on the corn pile. Then a doe comes running in, and he knew something was chasing her. Sure enough, out walks the big buck we’ve been after all season (the one that’s never shown up in daylight) and gives him the perfect shot.
He didn’t find a drop of blood, but he knew he made a great shot… but then he found the buck laying 15 yards from the corn pile. After everything he’s put into hunting, it finally came together for him. I couldn’t be prouder of him.
