Rockingham County buck took the long way around
On Nov. 2, 2023, Paige Mitchell went into the Rockingham County woods in the afternoon hoping for a muzzleloader harvest. Three days prior, she was in the stand consistently with no luck, but the morning of her harvest date looked promising.
Come that afternoon, after being in the stand for about an hour, a 4-pointer came in. Shortly after, this beautiful 7-pointer was seen coming in, but very slowly. It seemed like this buck had her busted already. Wind was blowing directly towards him and there was low coverage.
After about 15 minutes he came in, but took the long way around. Once he broke through the opening broadside, she took her shot and the muzzleloader didn’t fire. Before she could get it reset, he quickly moved and was facing straight to her. He stayed this way for about 20 minutes. Finally the 4-pointer tried to take a jab at him making him turn broadside again at 30 yards. She quickly lined up her crosshairs and fired, he only ran 15 yards and dropped. Her biggest buck to date, and first muzzleloader harvest!
