Picked up a small 25 acre lease in Greenville county July of this year. Almost right away my trail camera showed a promising buck. As usual when the acorns started to fall, he disappeared about 2 weeks before the season opener. By a stroke of luck, he reappeared the night before opening day. I decided not to hunt that morning to avoid pushing him out of the area while walking to my stand in the dark. That afternoon on my way to the stand, he showed up on camera. I drove around until he had been off camera for about 5 minutes. I was able to slip into the stand undetected at 4:45. At 5:20, I could see him easing his way back into the mineral lick and he presented a 35 yard broadside shot. I had full confidence my crossbow could easily make that shot as I had been practicing at that range. The bolt center punched him right behind the shoulder and he piled up 80 yards later. He rough scored 135.5 which would make him my biggest South Carolina buck.
