8-point buck was in full velvet
McKenzie Lynn Miller of Lexington, SC killed a nice 8-point buck in full velvet on the evening of Aug. 16, 2024 while hunting with her dad and brother from an elevated stand.
“They sat in the same stand she sat in on Youth Day with her grandpa,” said the 11-years-old’s mom, Wendy Miller.
The young hunter didn’t see anything on Youth Day, but the hunt with her brother and dad went much better.
“They sat maybe an hour, and five bucks came out. Kenzie’s dad set her up to shoot,” she said.
Miller took her time before taking the shot, and at first, she thought she’d missed the deer.
“She watched through her rifle’s scope and took about 15 minutes to shoot,” she said. “Then she took her shot and watched the deer mule-kick and run off. She began crying, thinking she missed.”
But she didn’t miss. Hunting buddies from the area joined in the search. They found a blood trail and followed it, and finally found the 8-point buck about 100 yards away.
“Then she began to cry out of pure happiness! It was a great family experience for the three of them that night. The pictures and smiles from that night are worth 1000 words,” she said.
