12-point buck weighed 220 pounds
I harvested this 12-point buck on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 in Greene County, NC. This stud weighed 220 pounds and had a 17.5-spread.
I have been hunting all my life, and have always dreamed of harvesting such a trophy. Since seeing him on camera for the first time, I knew he was a once in a lifetime deer for Eastern NC.
On the afternoon before our final hunt, I was preparing for my last patient of the day. I got a notification from our camera; it was him, in all his glory, at 4:58 p.m. This was only the second time he had been seen during daylight and my heart broke!
Fast forward to the next day. I knew I had already blocked off my schedule to get off work at 4, but also knew it was a long shot for him to make another appearance back-to-back during daylight. I tried it anyway. After getting home, I rushed and threw on whatever I could find, grabbed my rifle, and headed to the stand. I was there for 6 minutes before he came out chasing a doe. I yelled at him three times before he stopped. That’s where we ended our chase with a nose dive and a sigh of relief.
I couldn’t have done any of it without my Dad, who taught me everything I know about the love of the hunt, and my boyfriend West, who made the entire hunt possible for me.
I will never forget that day as long as I live.
