Landon Locklear’s 11-point buck

11-point buck

11-point buck was a no-show on Opening Day

Landon Locklear of McColl, SC killed a Marlboro County 11-point buck on Aug. 17, 2024 during an evening hunt. He shot the buck with a Ravin crossbow from 50 yards away while hunting from a box stand.

The buck had been a regular visitor on Locklear’s trail cameras leading up to the season. But on opening day, it was a no-show.

“I had this deer on camera every evening before deer season. When deer season came in, it was a no-show for him,” he said.

But two days later, Locklear got in the stand at 6 p.m., anticipating a return visit from the 11-point buck. And like clockwork, the buck did return.

“I was sitting there waiting for him, and at 7:25, he walked out,” he said.

The hunt wasn’t over though, as the deer didn’t offer Locklear a clear shot at first.

“He was behind the deer feeders, and I couldn’t get a shot,” he said. “But next thing I knew, he came walking straight to me.”

With the deer about 50 yards away, fired his crossbow. His aim was true, and seconds later, the buck was on the ground.

“I shot him, and he ran about 20 yards and fell,” he said.
