12-point buck showed up during evening hunt

Landon Locklear of Laurinburg, NC killed a 12-point buck on Sept. 10, 2024 during an evening hunt. He shot the deer from about 40 yards away with his TenPoint crossbow while hunting from a box stand.

The hunter was familiar with the buck through trail camera photos. It was his first evening hunt of the season, and things couldn’t have worked out much better.

“It was my first evening sit. He came out at about 100 yards and walked straight to me,” he said. “When he got to about 40 yards, I took the shot and he fell straight to the ground. Then he got up and took off running about 30 yards and fell.”

The 12-point buck weighed 200 pounds.
