After I threw in the towel for the morning hunt at around 11 am, I walked over to one of the other tree stand locations on the hunting property to check the corn pile. While walking in the vicinity of the corn pile I stepped on a tree branch and startled the 8 pointer that was concealed behind some trees and bushes. Quickly I readied my AR-10 and tracked the deer through the scope as the deer began to haul tail. I fired 2 shots at about 50 yards, and the second shot nailed him and instantly dropped him. Just as I was having doubts about killing a mature deer this hunting season things unexpectedly changed in my favor.
