Buck came out about 7:10 am from a direction that I’ve never seen a deer come out from. Funny thing is just a few minutes before I was just thinking, why do I keep looking over that way cause I never see anything come from there. Just a few minutes later I happen to look back over to my right where I’ve never seen them come out from and boom there he was. He was walking and stopped all of a sudden to smell the area, kept walking and jumped over a creek that runs by my stand. After he crossed the creek he kept walking away from me and from my saddle stand I lost sight of him and thought he was gone but then a minute or so went by and he came back out to a little bit of an opening between a few oak trees. Almost like he was doing a little loop around trying to make sure the coast was clear. When he stepped back out into my line of sight he was munching on some acorns that had been dropping all morning, then the buck fever really set in and took every bit of me to TRY and remain calm. He stood quartered away from me and thought this is time I need to take him before he decides to walk off and I lose my chance. Was using an older Matthew’s compound solo cam with a Rage hypodermic broad head, so went ahead and ranged him at 20.5 yards. Pulled back on the bow and I always try to pray and hope if a deer comes out that I’d like that I’d make a clean and quick/lethal shot. Tried to aim a bit back that way I’d still hit lung where he was quartered from me, let the arrow fly and to me was a perfect placement. Heard that loud THWACK sound, he jumped and mule kicked and took off back across the creek and got to watch him go about 40-50 yards and fall and expire. Arrow ended up hitting lungs and lodged into that off set shoulder and he didn’t make it far at all. Clean and quick kill just as I hoped and prayed for. Sat and watched him to make sure he was done before celebrating too much. I couldn’t have been more blessed and happy with the turnout to have gotten such a mature and nice buck. Turned to be a real wide seven point that I’ve been watching for about 2-3 months. I’ve been hunting since I was 10 or so and have never gotten a buck and for me to finally get one that’s a mature buck and with a bow means the world to me and couldn’t be happier! Glory be to god for allowing me to spend time in his creation and harvest one of his beautiful creations. A moment that I’ll never forget.
