Eric Steele kills Rowan County 8-point buck

8-point buck was in full velvet

Eric Steele of Cleveland, NC killed a Rowan County 8-point buck on Sept. 7, 2024. He shot the buck from 18 yards away while sitting in a stand 18 feet off the ground. He was using a compound bow, and made a nice lung shot on the deer.

“I watched a young small 8-point for about an hour, and a more mature 7-point for about 30 minutes,” said Steele. “The small 8 laid down under my stand and was biting at his ticks. The 7 was walking all over the place making me nervous. Then, the 8 I harvested walked in like he owned the place and went straight to the food plot. He gave me a perfect angle for a clean shot. I had never killed a buck with a bow before, and I was silently yelling when I heard him crash about 50 yards away.”
