Early Season Randolph County Buck

Randolph County buck

On September 11th I woke up at 3:30am to make the 2 hour commute from Cherryville, NC to favorite hunting spot just outside of Randleman, NC.

It was a foggy walk to my tree stand, with a slight drizzle. I got it my stand around 6:20am and waited patiently for deer to start to move. I felt confident that the light rain would keep my scent low this hunt. Shortly before 7am I watched 6-7 does and fawns walk to my Moultrie Feeder to eat. I noticed a larger bodied deer coming walking from in front of me towards my feeder about 10 minutes after 7.

As he got closer, I noticed he was one of my target bucks. He stood and 25 yards to the left of my stand just before the feeder. I slowly picked up my Barnett Raptor crossbow and put the crosshairs behind his front shoulder. Just after I squeezed the trigger of my crossbow, I witnessed my target buck drop right in his tracks at 25 yards.

Needless to say, it was a great morning in the woods.

The buck is a main frame 9 with a 1” kicker at the bottom of his right base. He has a 16” spread and estimated to be 4 years old.
