Barnwell County buck dropped on the spot

Case Wiles of Williston, SC killed a beast of a buck in Barnwell County on Sept. 12, 2024. He shot the buck with a Savage Arms 110 6.5 Creedmoor at 7:45 p.m. from 105 yards away.

Wiles shares the story of his hunt here:

“I had this deer show up back on August 27th in full velvet about 3:30am. Once I got pictures of this deer I knew I wanted to harvest this one. I kept constantly keeping corn on the ground for this deer. Throughout the next few weeks the trail camera pictures were rolling in with him. September 6th is when I started getting pictures of him shedding his velvet, from what I can tell based on the trail camera was it took him almost 2 days to shed it all. The evening of the 10th, I went hunting, hoping to harvest that buck. Well it got too dark so I slipped out. My camera sent me pictures that night and that buck showed up 15 minutes after I left. On the evening of the 12th I got into the ground blind and was hoping to finally seal the deal on this buck. After watching yearlings, a few smaller bucks, and a few doe for about an hour and some change, all of those deer looked towards the bottom of the gas line. I looked through my binoculars, I could see him coming through the tall grass, he was easing his way to the corn pile. As I was still scanning with my binoculars I noticed another big buck behind him. Once this buck got on the corn pile, a yearling walked in front of him and I had to wait just a little while longer for my opportunity. I kept watching the other buck as well but once I saw that yearling move I knew it was my opportunity to take the 10 point. Clicked off the safety and took a deep breath, squeezed the trigger and he dropped right in his tracks. My biggest deer that I’ve ever killed and it felt awesome to finally harvest him.”
