It’s been a grind this year back and forth to ky and Ohio hunting. Had opportunity back in September on a mature 8 I named freak show. He didn’t present a clean shot and I let him walk ar 22yards with bow. This deer was my 2nd hit list buck who showed up back in early November on a black widow deer lure scrape. He never presented any daytime action I pulled cameras on this particular property to focus them all on some other places. On wensday 27th day after we got 6in of rain I woke up early to get my day started for work with anticipation of making it to woods for one final hunt of year. I had sit down at around 4:02pm was glass field edge and cutover. I found myself praying like I often do while enjoying the creations God has given us. I suddenly turned to my left and he was standing there looking out into the field I was also glare at as if he was checking it for a hot doe. He soon looked at my way and we had a stare down for about 2mins. I knew I had to take action he begin to walk away down the hill right into my scent cone. And done every hunters worst nightmare he caught my wind. He sping off the ground about 3ft in air and took off. But he did one thing mature bucks hardly ever do was stop at 50 yards and give me a perfect shot broadside. I braced myself against the tree and steady my breathing like I’ve practiced many times in heat of moment on hot coyote stand. The 243 and 70gr federal done the rest he folded in his tracks like he hot hit by dump truck and the rest is history with this monarch of whitetail!
