Call with finesse
April brings about a transition in the life cycle of the coyote. Females are denning and the fields are grown knee high. Finding coyotes can be challenging even with thermal equipment.
I focus on small strips of timer in amongst the fields where coyotes normally roam. The lower vegetation is not as high as the open fields and the coyotes travel these corridors.
Right now I am sticking to rodent sounds as coyotes sneak in slowly to try and find a mouse or rat sound. Larger prey sounds like fawn or rabbits brings the coyotes in too fast and they soon disappear into the thick tangle. Finesse calling is key to bring them into the small woodlots with you.
