Great Memories

buck

Jason Lambert of Whitsett, NC killed an 8-point buck in Alamance County, NC on Nov. 2, 2026.

He shot the buck with a Ten Point TRX 515 Crossbow with the Burris OracleX scope during an afternoon hunt while sitting in an elevated stand from 43 yards away.

Lambert summed up the hunt with these words:

“Today just felt different. I decided to get in the stand a little earlier so I ended up getting in the tree about 2 o’clock. I had done some grunting and rattling a few days before that in a blind about 100 yards from this location and that was the first time that I’ve hunted that spot and not see at least one doe, so I fought the urge, thinking it might be a little early in the season for all that.

I started to see some does come in and move around but they didn’t stay long. I did start light grunting about the last hour of the hunt. I guess 30 minutes went by and I saw something moved to my right. It was the eight that showed up on my camera a few days ago. He was about 91 yards out and probably 15 yards from the ground blind I had set up and there’s no way I was taking that shot. He started walking the opposite direction and I felt helpless…then remembered I had my call. I hit the grunt a few times and then waited at this point. I was already having the best time and then I heard a couple grunts and I just knew he was getting ready to pop out behind me because the wind was blowing in my face, so I figured he was trying to wind me.

I could hardly stand the excitement I was feeling, so I put the crossbow up because it was clear. He was coming out fast and was going to be on the road bed in front of me. Then this little spike came running out and ran towards where I saw the eight😂😂 I just started laughing. I was honestly thinking if the hunt stopped right now I would be happy, but I noticed I had a doe in front of me and I watched her for about 15 minutes and she went back into the cut over.

I honestly prayed and said, God please bring this deer to me and I said I know this is a little thing, but I would love to hear from you anytime. This is a prayer I’ve prayed probably a dozen times in the last couple of weeks. Ive been asking him for a sign or something that was personal between me and him and when I looked back on this hunt, it was so much more than an answered prayer and it taught me that God‘s timing is perfect and his plan is better than my expectations. Everything lined up on this hunt in such an extraordinary way that if I did not have it on film I wouldn’t believe it. It showed me that He does care about the small things. Small things like, before I went hunting that day I changed the settings in my trail cam so that I would have a video option. I forgot I had done that.

When he first stepped out he was full broadside and I realized I had not turned my scope on, so I missed the opportunity for that shot. God had a different plan. I was able to take my time with the shot and I know the shot I took was a risky one, but I did feel very confident and the shot landed beautifully. I put the crossbow down and called my wife immediately the deer dropped not 3 yards from where the arrow hit him.

I got out of the tree and decided to check my phone because I had notifications. I pulled the camera and saw it had taken the picture but what had not occurred to me is I had the video as well? I sent the picture to my wife and then didn’t think anything else about it. This did not hit me until everything was done and me and my wife were sitting there looking at the picture. I never thought that it would have the whole thing in the video. My trail camera cut on and recorded at the exact time I shot that deer and you will never be able to convince me that this was not a father talking to his child and it was very personal to me. Me and my wife gasped when we watched the video and realized what had happened.

This will go down as one of my absolute favorite hunts I’ve experienced. I guess what I took away from it is God‘s timing is perfect and what he has for me is always gonna be better than my plans or expectations.”
