Student Angler League fished first spring tournament March 27

The Student Angler League Tournament Trail (SALTT)’s first 2021 spring tournament provided nearly perfect weather conditions, which enabled a record-setting day. Nearly every team of the 31 who blasted off brought fish to the scales when it was time to weigh in.

The spring tournament was split into two divisions. The saltwater anglers fished for redfish while the freshwater anglers fished for bass.

Redfish

The Elementary Division was won by newcomers Rylee and Alaina Clark with the biggest redfish of the day at 4.36 pounds. The sisters got it done on their first tourney.

In the Middle School Division, Cubby Weaver of Georgetown won with two fish weighing 8.56 pounds. “The Cubsta” also landed the Big Fish, a 4.09-pounder. Second place went to Conrad Beglin and Hampton Irvin of Waccamaw with two fish weighing 7.62 pounds. Third place was Aden Day of Conway with two fish at 6.53 pounds.

Bass

In the Middle School Division for bass, Cody Wilder and Dalton Williams of Conway teamed up for a record weight of 18.56 pounds. Their five-fish limit included the division’s Big Fish, a 5.08-pound lunker. Second place was also an impressive haul from Devin Tompkins of Georgetown. His five fish tipped the scaled at 12.54 pounds. Third place’s Dawson Hawley of Green Sea Floyds caught a five-fish limited that weighed 11.54 pounds.

The High School Bass Division was won by Gavin Porter of Loris with fish fish at 12.61 pounds. Second place went to Andrew Ackerman and Jeremy Owens of Georgetown with five fish weighing 12.07 pounds. Third was Mason Hardee and Will Hardee McGuirt of Conway with five fish that totaled 11.54 pounds.

SALTT’s next tournament will be May 1, 2021 with the finale taking place on May 15. Both tournaments will be held at Carroll A. Campbell Landing in Georgetown. The trail winners are determined by a culmination of the best four of six bag weights, so every team can drop their lowest two tournaments (if the trail fishes a full schedule of six tournaments).

It’s never too late to join SALTT, and your school does not need to have a team or club for you to fish SALTT.
