Wahoo tops Ocean Isle fishing report

Anglers fishing out of Ocean Isle are catching lots of wahoo right now. The folks at Ocean Isle Fishing Center said wahoo have been the main focus of charter boats as well as everyday anglers. And they are all catching these fish, including some big ones.

But that’s not the only fish that’s biting. Anglers venturing offshore have also been catching some tuna, vermillion snapper, lots of big black sea bass, and even some sailfish.

Capt. Austin with OIFC said now is the time to get after the wahoo.

“The wahoo fishing is great right now. We’ve caught a good class of 40-pound fish with some scattered bigger fish. Right now is the time to catch them up. Give us a call to go chase them around the ocean,” said Austin.

He also said anglers need to start thinking about the grouper bite, which he expects to be on fire this year.

“It’s time to start thinking about some of the best grouper fishing that the east coast has to offer. May 1 is go time, and we want you to go with us,” he said.

If you’d like to book a trip with OIFC, give them a call at 910-575-3474. And like them on Facebook for frequent updates on how the fishing is going.
