Lowcountry boater crashes into dock

Boat crash video

A Facebook user sent this video to Charleston TALKS, showing how quickly a leisurely day of boating went wrong during the Memorial Day weekend. It appears the boater was attempting to dock beside a fuel pump to gas up — or was leaving after gassing up — when he realized the current wasn’t helping him out. To avoid the current pushing him into another boat and dock, the boater overcorrected more than once, leading to a series of crashes before his boat finally crashed and came to rest on top of the nearby dock.

It’s a stark reminder that boating is fun but dangerous. Even at low or idle speed, things can go bad real quickly when boaters aren’t paying attention or are not used to the impact that tides, current and wind have on boats.
