Rodney Locklear of Hamlet, NC caught this 26-pound striper while fishing with Capt. Leroy Suggs on the Santee Cooper lakes.

Big striper was caught with Capt. Leroy Suggs

While fishing with Capt. Leroy Suggs out of Blacks Camp in Cross, S.C., Rodney Locklear of Hamlet, N.C. hooked and landed a hefty striper on the Santee Cooper lakes. Locklear’s striper pulled the scale to exactly 26 pounds.

Suggs has put many clients on big stripers over the years. His favorite tactic is chasing the diving birds, then casting topwater lures to the schools they are diving on. Suggs said nothing beats catching stripers on topwater lures.

But when the birds aren’t working, he’s just as good at putting his clients in the thick of things using his electronics to find schools of stripers down deep. That’s when he vertically jigs Berry’s Flex-It spoons, triggering strikes that anglers never forget.

If you’re ready to get on the hot striper bite, give Capt. Suggs a call at 910-995-1168.
