I am a local fisherman of South Carolina that frequents the Broad River and have learned many things about the smallmouth and their migratory winter patterns.

I anchored my canoe in a key spot that I studied throughout the years and started hammering them 1 after the other for about a 3hr long period and put my best 5 in my makeshift cooler livewell.

I caught them on a combination of drop shots, jerkbaits, finesse football jigs, and finesse swimbaits.

My biggest being caught on a finesse jig, 6.25lbs with an impressive 21.75in in length and 17.5in girth.

With a combined weight of 24LBS, I would say that is close to the biggest 5 fish limit every caught on the Broad River.

All fish were released healthy and dirt was cleaned off of them. Cold temps kept them alive as well as my aerated livewell.

Here are the pictures that I have, plus the total weights of all fish caught.

Fish #1: 3LBS 1OZ
Fish #2: 3LBS 9OZ
Fish #3: 5LBS 8OZ
Fish #4: 5LBS 12OZ
Fish #5: 6LBS 4OZ

Total: 24.13LBS

I would love to be featured in the magazine or social media and recognized for this huge accomplishment. I have spent all my free time in this river and would love to show the outdoor community!

Thanks,

Ethan Burge
