My 19 year old son caught this tarpon while shark fishing on Fripp Island shore July 4, 2025. We were renting a house on the beach. Fishing with fresh cut mullet. He threw out at around 9:15 and finally landed him at 11:36pm. On his feet, no breaks. This tarpon was 80 inches and the record is 77in. We were not fishing for tarpon so we weren’t prepared and had no way to weigh it. DNR people said it’s likely a record beater, possibly close to 200lbs. It was massive.
