Jaxson Winslow of Perquimans County, NC killed an 8-point buck in Perquimans County, NC on Oct. 24, 2026.
He shot the buck with a Savage axis 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain during an evening hunt while sitting in an elevated stand from 30 yards away.
Winslow’s dad summed up the hunt with these words:
“Jaxson had been asking me all day, “dad can we go hunting” on repeat. I said “Son, I have to finish this job. We will see.” Well 3:30 pm came around he asked one more time. Even though I wasn’t finished working, I sat my stuff down, we got dressed in our hunting gear, grabbed his rifle and went on to the stand. Got to the stand about 4:15 pm and settled in. Finally a doe comes out and she kept looking back, I said “Jaxson get ready, something is behind her,” sure enough this 8-pointer steps out head down. I said “Jaxson, there’s your buck, take your time.” No sooner I could get that out my mouth boooommm, another buck jumps out the woods and whirls back into the woods, I said “Dang buddy, did you miss him?” He said “No daddy he’s right there in bottom of ditch.” Sure enough he was!! Proud dad moment and a core memory for both of us.
Winslow is now entered in our Bag-A-Buck Contest, and is eligible to win our monthly prize pack, which includes a set of Ultimate Eyes & Ears Combo from ShellShock Pro, a YETI Rambler bottle, a prize package from Buck Commander and Duck Commander, and a Carolina Sportsman hat, as well as our Grand Prize, a 2-day hunt for two to Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield County, SC.
