Tammy Tucker’s trophy buck measures 143 inches
A tremendous, main-frame 8-point buck killed on Sept. 8, the first day of archery season, is the winner of the first of four monthly Bag-A-Buck contests presented by Leupold and Barnes Precision Machinery.
Tammy Tucker of Kannapolis entered the Stanly County buck on Sept. 13; her entry was drawn as the September contest winner on Oct. 1.
She will receive a $25 gift certificate to the Sportsman Outdoor Store. She and all other contest entrants will remain eligible for the grand prize, which will be awarded at the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh next March. The grand-prize package includes a Leupold optics package (scope, binoculars and rangefinder) and a .223 Designate Marksman Rifle from Barnes Precision Machinery.
“I enjoyed every minute watching this nice buck walk into my bow range,” Tucker said on her entry form. “I had seen the buck on trail cam a week before opening day, then, opening morning, he came in at 7:15 with three other smaller bucks and stopped about 40 yards out to scratch that gorgeous velvet. (That) gave me the time I needed to focus.
“He stepped right into a great, broadside 22-yard shot for me. I was able to make a good shot, and he ran about 70 yards.”
Tucker said prelimary measurements put the buck at around 143 inches.
