Cheraw hunter wins Carolina Sportsman’s Grand Prize Bag-A-Buck contest

Glen Lampley of Cheraw, S.C. won the Grand Prize for Carolina Sportsman's Bag-A-Buck contest.

Wins deer hunt at Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge, 3-year Sportsman subscription

Glen Lampley of Cheraw, S.C., will likely vote for 2016 as his favorite deer season, for two reasons. First, he killed a beautiful 8-point buck on Nov. 8, and then his entry in Carolina Sportsman’s Bag-a-Buck contest was drawn as the grand-prize winner.

Lampley’s grand-prize package includes a deer hunt at Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield, S.C., a 3-year subscription to Carolina Sportsman and a $50 gift certificate to the Sportsman’s online Outdoor Store.

Lampley, “littledog1969” on CarolinaSportsman.com, killed the 155-pound buck, which had an 18-inch spread and scored around 140 inches, with a .25-06.

Lampley admitted he was looking at a big doe that entered his food plot around 8:15, sizing her up to see if she was big enough to kill and enter in his hunt club’s big-doe contest. That’s when she looked behind her and the buck appeared.

“I didn’t need my binoculars to tell me that I was looking at a true buck of a lifetime,” said Lampley, who thought about popping the buck with a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Magnum he carries, but decided the doe might catch all the movement needed and spook the buck — so the .25-06 got the job.
