Girlfriend killed deer after winning Rock-Paper-Scissors game

The afternoon of Dec. 21, Tyler Hinton of Nashville watched a 10-point buck ease through the woods toward a corn pile, and as he raised his rifle, he noticed some movement out of the corner of his eye.

It was his girlfriend, Kristina Carpenter, raising her rifle.

Who gets to shoot? Well, they nicknamed the deer the “Rock, Paper, Scissors buck” for good reason.

“We played ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors,’ twice,” Hinton said.

Twice?

“I won the first time, but she really wanted to shoot the deer, so we played a second time, and she won,” he said.

Moments later, Carpenter’s .243 cracked, and the buck dropped at 80 yards, giving her a real trophy for only her second deer ever.

A few days later, Hinton, a 25-year-old firefighter with the city of Rocky Mount, entered the buck in North Carolina Sportsman’s Bag-A-Buck contest, and his entry was drawn on Jan. 1 to win the December contest.

As a monthly winner, Hinton will receive a $25 gift certirficate to the Sportsman’s Online store and a year’s subscription to North Carolina Sportsman. He and every other person who entered the contest is eligible for the grand prize, a 10-year subscription to the magazine and a $50 gift certificate to the Sportsman’s Store.

“It was only her second deer,” Hinton said. “She was pretty excited. This is only her second year hunting; she killed a little buck earlier this season.”
